Bobs Tracks:
- 3:21 .. My Husband Was a Weatherman
Labels:
- CD US Rhino R2 71083 [AAD]
Liner Notes Info:
- "My Husband Was A Weatherman" -- "A cross between
Devo and The Mills Brothers" was how the Los Angeles
Times described The Bobs, world-famous stars of
concerts, stage, radio and TV spots, and movie scores.
The self-described "nu-wave a cappella group" was
founded in the San Francisco area in the early '80s by
ex-singing telegram employees Gunnar Madsen and
Matthew Stull, with bassman Richard Green and Janie
Scott. The 1989 addition of tenor/air percussionist
Joe Finetti made The Bobs "the world's largest quartet."
To date, they've put out four albums plus The NPR
Tape, the latter compiling prime topical bits done for
NPR's Morning Edition. "Helter Skelter," from the
original foursome's eponymous 1983 debut LP
(Kaleidoscope Records), earned a Grammy nomination.
Penned by Madsen and Greene, "My Husband Was A
Weatherman" is a twisted, serio-comic, jazzy piece
from the group's second effort, My, I'm Large, out in
mid-1987 on the Great American Music Hall label
(distributed by Fantasy).
